Tropical timber for
Structures and panels
Various different uses of structural timber and panels have been identified, such as:
- Lightweight structures
- Glued laminated timber
- Finger joints
- Plywood, inside face and outside face
- Plywood, inner layers
- Sliced veneer
These products are typically used in a sheltered situation that falls within class use 2 and class use 3 in tropical zones (EN 335:2013).
The recommanded durability is therefore lower than that which is needed for heavy constructions.
The mechanical characteristics of the timber and its stability are the first criteria for this category of use.
The appearance and aesthetics of the timber are also taken into account when the timber is visible.
