As tropical timber is naturally resistant, and ecological, it recommended for heavy work, like for hydraulic works or for industrial floors.

Tropical timber for
Industrial usage and heavy work
Such works involve a range of external usages that typically require the use of large sections (beams, planks, battens).
Industrial uses and heavy works include:
- Hydraulic works in a submerged marine environment
- Structures and bridges in contact with soil or freshwater
- Acoustic barriers in urban areas along railroads and highways
- Sleepers and dunnage
- Industrial floors and heavy framework
- Vehicle, wagon and container bottom (or floor)
The timber species used must have solid mechanical properties and high to very high natural durability depending on the structures' degree of exposure to bad weather. For this group of uses, the appearance of the timber is a secondary selection criterion.
